UWA Business School Accounting Professor Ann Tarca has been appointed to chair the Australian Accounting Standards Board’s (AASB) Academic Advisory Panel.

The new advisory panel will help maximise the positive impact of academic research on the way in which financial reporting occurs in Australia.

Launching the Panel, AASB Chair Kris Peach said: “I am delighted that leading academics from universities across Australia have agreed to be on the Panel. Together we can harness academic networks and ideas for our work within the AASB and the standard-setting community by conducting and publishing valuable research.”

Professor Tarca, Chair of the AASB Academic Advisory Panel, said she was confident the newly created panel would help accounting standard setters in their work.

“I look forward to working with Panel members to reach out to the academic community to expand the interactions with standard setters,” Professor Tarca said.

“I believe this will facilitate more research in this important area, leading to high-quality independent evidence that can assist standard setters with their decision making.”

The AASB Academic Panel membership comprises: Chair Ann Tarca, an AASB Board Member from The University of Western Australia; Neil Fargher, Australian National University; David Gilchrist, Curtin University; Bryan Howieson, The University of Adelaide; Brad Potter, The University of Melbourne; and Baljit Sidhu and Roger Simnett from The University of New South Wales.
