The beginning of semester marks a fresh start for the UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre. The facility has undergone refurbishments during the semester break and presents itself with new workout zones and an updated gym layout timely for the start of semester 2.

The High Performance Room has been relocated to a more spacious area, allowing for a vibrant environment, as well as a view over Jackson court. It is the ideal space for heavy weight lifting, including power lifting, Olympic barbells and Hammer Strength power racks and plate loaded machines to assist in building strength and conditioning. This room is designed to push the limits.

The Multipurpose and Cycle Rooms have received an interior facelift including updated décor and a new sound system creating a focused and motivated atmosphere and the perfect areas for low and high intensity group fitness and spin classes.

Further updates include the creation of the Low Impact Zone , an intimate space to get away from the foot traffic in the main area. The zone is designed to guide members on their fitness journey through the use of cable and free weights, medicine and fit balls and a range of cardio equipment including exercise and recumbent bikes.

The refurbishment has also allowed for the inclusion of a Functional Training Zone on the main gym floor. The unique area offers a range of innovative equipment to maximise your workout. The incorporation of the artificial turf is an original way of bringing the outdoors indoors. The zone is comprised of stations designed to allow for varying fitness and ability levels: TRX® suspension training, allowing bodyweight and gravity to help build strength, balance, flexibility and core stability, an agility ladder to assist in building coordination, foot speed and balance and a boxing station aimed at improving strength, agility, endurance and hand-eye coordination. The addition of kettle bells and medicine balls allows for exercises that employ various planes of motion to engage dozens of muscles simultaneously, creating lean muscle and strengthening the core. The Functional Training Zone can be safely incorporated into self-guided workouts or in personal training sessions, whether that is one on one or in a small group.

The UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre on Crawley Campus is open to UWA students, staff and the general public.
