Microsoft has announced that the next version of the Windows operating system, Windows 10, will be released shortly.  Many staff may have already seen a free upgrade offer appear on their home computers.

Whilst you may choose to take up the offer to upgrade at home, please do not attempt to install Windows 10 on a UWA-owned computer, even if the upgrade offer appears. Doing so may mean you are no longer able to work with UWA business applications, and there is little that the IT team may be able to do to support you until a formal release.

Prior to the University supporting Windows 10, it must be tested and verified against all of UWA’s enterprise systems, as well as many local business unit specific applications. In addition, changes to the user interface mean that some level of familiarity training may be required for staff to maintain their efficiency when moving to Windows 10. Finally, until Windows 10 Enterprise is formally released to us, there are costs involved in installing Windows 10 on UWA managed PCs.

Your local IT support unit will let you know when Windows 10 is available and supported in your work area.

Regards,

UWA IT Support Managers
