Two of The University of Western Australia’s (UWA) most promising engineering students, Elizabeth Duguid (EECE) and Mark Musulin (MECH), have been awarded Clough Engineering Scholarships to complete their Masters in Professional Engineering.

Having successfully completed the rigorous selection process, the students will receive $15,000 towards their studies and will benefit from being offered summer internships and graduate positions at Clough.

First introduced in 1969 by Dr Harold Clough in partnership with UWA, the program has awarded more than 200 scholarships to the brightest engineering students in WA. Past recipients include top government, business and resource industry leaders.

UWA Electrical and Electronic Engineering student Elizabeth Duguid said the scholarship would help support her engineering studies and develop her career.

“The financial support offered through the scholarship will allow me to continue to focus on my studies,” Ms Duguid said. “I have a passion for sustainability and I hope that I can be involved in projects that design for the future, minimising negative impacts on society and the environment.”

“I am particularly excited by the potential of participating in Clough’s vacation and graduate programs. I see that experience as being invaluable to my career and I hope that it leads to me working for the company in the future.”

The Clough Scholars Program reaffirms the longstanding relationship between Clough, the Clough family and the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at UWA. Clough awards four scholarships each year to top students who have demonstrated leadership capability for the duration of their two-year Masters of Professional Engineering degree.

Clough CEO and Managing Director Kevin Gallagher welcomed Elizabeth and Mark to the Clough Scholars family.

“The Clough Scholars Program supports our top engineering students, helping them on their way to excelling in the industry,” Mr Gallagher said. “Both Elizabeth and Mark join a distinguished, worldwide network of Clough scholars who have excelled in their field and become today’s leaders.”

UWA Professor John Dell, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics said the scholarship program reflected Clough’s commitment to engineering education within WA and was a wonderful opportunity for its recipients.

“Students are provided financial support to further their engineering studies and a kick-start to their career through a renowned global engineering firm,” he said.
