UWA Bachelor of Commerce students will be eligible for a new scholarship sponsored by electricity and gas retailer Perth Energy .

Valued at $10,000, the scholarship will be open to second and third year students who demonstrate academic excellence.

Dean of the UWA Business School , Professor Phil Dolan, said the new scholarship would provide encouragement for high achieving students.

“We are very pleased that Perth Energy has chosen to support the UWA Business School’s undergraduate students through establishing the Perth Energy Scholarship,” Professor Dolan said.

“The new scholarship will help relieve the financial pressures of study for some of our brightest students.”

Perth Energy’s Managing Director Ky Cao said the company looked forward to meeting recipients of the new scholarship.

“I graduated from the precursor of UWA Business School, the School of Economics and Commerce, before starting my career, and have seen first-hand the value that a business/economics background can bring to the energy industry,” Mr Cao said.

Perth Energy will become a Supporting Corporate Partner of the UWA Business School.

Applications for the inaugural Perth Energy Scholarship will open later in the year, with applications closing on 1 March 2016.
