UWA Business School student Amy Darby has been presented with the 2015 ATCO Australia Undergraduate Scholarship in recognition and support of her ongoing efforts to complete a Bachelor of Commerce .

Amy began full-time study at the UWA Business School in 2014 after successfully applying through the UWA Mature-age Access Program . A strong resolve has seen the 21-year-old deliver positive academic results which have reaffirmed her decision to use education as a means to provide a better quality of life for herself and her young family.

“It means a great deal that ATCO Australia provides financial assistance to students, many of whom, like me, find it very difficult to make ends meet,” Amy said. “I’m extremely grateful to be this year’s recipient of the scholarship as it will ensure I can provide for my family as well as continue to pursue my dream of qualifying as an Accountant.”

Outside of studying, looking after her children and working part-time, Amy also provides mentoring to high school students who have become disengaged with their studies. The Ignite Mentoring program is close to her heart, having gone through a similar situation to the program’s mentees herself as a teenager.

"Providing support through the UWA Business School scholarship program is something we hold in very high regard,” said Wayne Stensby, Managing Director, ATCO Australia .

“Not only do scholarships have a real and immediate impact for the recipient, we have seen over the years the contribution they make to longer term success as well. We are delighted to provide assistance to Amy and pay great credit to her commitment and dedication to getting the best out of herself. We believe she has a very bright future in front of her.”

This is the fourth year in which the ATCO Australia Undergraduate Scholarship has been awarded.
