It is with great anticipation that I launch the new UWA Crowd Research web site which can be found at https://crowdresearch.uwa.edu.au/ .

Involving the community in UWA research projects continues to be an important component of our impact agenda, and this new web site allows this to happen in three ways:

1.    People can enlist to join a pool of participants who sign up to take part in future UWA research projects across a broad range of disciplines. To this end we have joined forces with a Healthway funded project called ‘UWA REACH’ which is attempting to recruit 500,000 Western Australians. There is already 3,642 people who have registered and 5 research projects are in progress.

2.    People can participate in an active research project now by helping to identify and collect important research data sets or by participating as a research subject.

3.    People can contribute by helping to fund a research project. Here we have established a collaboration with an Australian third party provider called ‘Chuffed’ which will host information about our projects and will collect and receipt donations on our behalf.

Last year, when we piloted UWA Crowd Research we called for project suggestions from university staff and students. We received more than 40 submissions but nearly 9 months has passed and so it is unsure whether these projects are still current. So we are asking the UWA community to once again suggest new projects that could become one of the next wave of UWA crowd research projects. Just follow the prompts to submit an Expression of Interest via the web site.

Finally, I would encourage all staff and students to promote the UWA Crowd Research initiative via their own networks over the next few months to ensure that UWA Crowd Research is successful.
