Australia’s top companies for supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people at work were announced on Friday, with UWA awarded as one of the ten best employers in the country for LGBTI inclusion.

The award marks the fifth year in a row UWA has been included in the annual top ten list.

UWA aspires to be included among the world’s top 50 Universities by 2050 and a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion is critical to realising this aspiration.

The University has demonstrated a significant commitment around LGBTI inclusion for more than a decade. Its achievements include strong sustained senior leadership, the ground breaking ALLY Network, a comprehensive policy environment and targeted initiatives supporting Trans and Intersex staff. The ALLY program has now been emulated across 22 universities in the sector.

Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater, is the ALLY program’s executive sponsor at UWA. “This accolade is testament to an inclusive campus culture where staff and students can realise their full potential, thus positioning the University well to achieve international excellence,” she said.
