Project update – Friday 5 June 2015

Road users, pedestrians and bus patrons may be interested in the following update on the works currently underway along Mounts Bay Road.

Pedestrians and road users should take extra care when using the roads in this area for the duration of this project.

Works occurring

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is creating a west-bound bus-only lane on Mounts Bay Road, from Hackett Drive to Broadway. The work commenced in March 2015 and is expected to be completed in August 2015.

Road construction continues near Broadway and the slip-lane remains closed. Work is also occurring on the corner of Hampden Road.

This week, the completion of the new footpath will take place and pedestrians will now be able to use this going forwards.

Drainage between Hackett Drive and Winthrop Avenue will also take place this week and works will be confined to this section for both the day and night.

Temporary relocation of bus stop, Stirling Highway (west bound)

The main bus stop, located in front of the University, has closed temporarily and an alternate bus stop is now in use, located further along Stirling Highway. This will be in place until mid-July. Signage notifying bus patrons is in place.

Traffic lanes, Mounts Bay Road (west bound)

From the week commencing Monday 4 May, the far left traffic lane on Mounts Bay Road (closest to the University) closed temporarily and the recently constructed median lane opened for road users. This allows works to be carried out to construct the dedicated bus-only lane.

The temporary closure does not impact vehicles entering the University from Mounts Bay Road.

The left sliplane from Mounts Bay Road onto Broadway is closed and will remain closed for the month of May.

Footpath, Mounts Bay Road (University side)

From the week commencing Monday 4 May, the footpath closest to the University closed temporarily. A temporary footpath will be in place for the duration of the works.

The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is creating a west-bound bus-only lane on Mounts Bay Road, from Hackett Drive to Broadway.

The works will be carried out from during the next 20 weeks, between Sunday and Thursday nights, during the hours of 8pm - 6am.

The bus-only lane will help Transperth provide a more reliable bus service by bypassing congestion and helping road traffic flow more smoothly. It will also support the University’s efforts in providing improved and alternative transport options to and from the Crawley campus.

The work will include:

•         Reducing the median strip between Hackett Drive and Winthrop Avenue to create a new traffic lane.

•         Modifying the Mounts Bay Road and Broadway intersection.

•         Road resurfacing.

Bus lanes may be closed during night-time hours, however will be open during daylight hours. Bus stops for the 23, 97, 102, 107 and 950 services along this short section of works may be temporarily relocated, or closed, during this work.

The University will liaise closely with the PTA to provide notice to staff or students of any significant disruptions, however bus-users are urged to sign up for free ‘My Alert’ email updates, via www.transperth.wa.gov.au , to stay informed of changes to their service.
