For the first time, the University of Western Australia (UWA) will be host to the Australasian Science Education Research Association’s (ASERA) annual International Conference to be held at the University Club (30 June – 3 July 2015).

The conference, being organised by the Faculty of Education, is expected to attract up to 200 delegates from around the world with topics such as socioscentific argumentation, engagement and motivation in science, and  science literacy to be discussed.

Associate Professor Christine Howitt from the Faculty of Education says the conference is the event to attend for those wanting to learn, participate in and be at the forefront of science education and science education research.

“The conference has a long history of attracting fantastic research pieces and ideas from some of the world’s leading experts and upcoming professionals in the areas of science education and research. To have the conference come to Perth this year is a great opportunity for Western Australians to actively participate and offer a voice in this area,” says Associate Professor Howitt.

“It is well known that Australia is suffering a shortage of high level educators in the areas of science and mathematics. Therefore, this conference plays a significant role in encouraging people to share ideas with the aim of improving science education and research in Australia.”

ASERA 2015 is designed to optimise constructive discussion about research in science education. In 2015 there will be two formats for presentation, Papers and Posters.

Those who would like to submit an abstract have until Friday 1 May 2015. All information regarding the conference can be found on ASERA’s official website .
