In the Zone is The University of Western Australia's premier forum on regional affairs. This ambitious conference series aims to engage stakeholders in Australia and in key Asian cities directly, to encourage networking and collaboration between decision makers across the zone and to share UWA's vision of Perth and Western Australia's place in this dynamic region.

This year, In the Zone will convene two high-profile events: the annual Forum on 1 May and the first venture into Asia in Singapore on 13 April.

Venture Asia (13 April) extends the In the Zone narrative beyond Perth. The Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Colin Barnett, will headline our first international event to be held at the headquarters of Google Asia Pacific in the heart of Singapore. Moderators and panelists at this half-day event include Greg Sheridan, Foreign Editor of the Australian, the head of Google Marketing Michelle Guthrie, the head of Rio Tinto Marine Bold Baatar and the Hon Stephen Smith.

The UWA Energy and Minerals Institute will also launch its inaugural State of Mind publication, a data-journalism report presenting a holistic view of Western Australia's minerals and energy story. It places the State's achievements as a world leading diversified minerals and energy province in a global context, and recasts the narrative of Western Australia, moving from a ‘state of mining' to a ‘state of mind'.

The Leadership Forum (1 May) will welcome His Excellency Professor Doctor Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Former President of Indonesia as the headline speaker at our annual Forum.

The program will include addresses from the Premier, the Foreign Minister and a keynote from the Former President, followed by an in-depth interview conducted by Paul Kelly, Editor-at-large of the Australian. The event will also include a lunch and panel discussion focused on business and innovation, with panelists confirmed including Andrew Harding and Michael Chaney.

The Leadership Forum will be held at the University Club of Western Australia on Friday 1 May 2015 from 10am - 2pm. Media is invited to attend the Leadership Forum and representatives should register by 30 April using the following link: https://zone.uwa.edu.au/media-access-registration
