Campus Management commenced a refurbishment project on the eastern side of Hackett Hall in the week commencing 6 April 2015. Please see below to find out more about this project and activities.

  • Stage 2 Hackett Hall refurbishment work commenced Monday 17 August 2015.
  • Refurbishment works have commenced and planned completion is end September 2015.
  • Floor sanding and sealing is completed.
  • The north eastern walkway into the courtyard and north east portion of the building will not be accessible while work is being carried out

Stage 2 of the refurbishment, where the Centre of Education Futures has been temporarily located in Hackett Hall, commenced Monday 17 August 2015, and included the removal of asbestos from the ceiling space. The asbestos removal has been completed and a Clearance Certificate provided enabling the refurbishment works to the room to commence.

Please note that unauthorised access to the construction site is strictly prohibited and must be coordinated with the head contractor, via Campus Management.

Works planned to occur: Monday 21 September – Friday 25 September 2015

Refurbishment activities

  • Electrical and mechanical services installation will continue.
  • Whiteboard and blind installation.
  • Installation of new doors and door hardware will continue.
  • Installation of new ceiling tiles.
  • Painting to doors and frames - some mild paint odours may be detected.
  • Cabinetwork delivery.
  • Cleaning.

Noise levels associated with the refurbishment works is not expected to cause significant disruption to building occupants.

Timing of works
The works commenced during the week commencing Monday 6 April and are expected to be completed by September 2015.

What is taking place?

The refurbishment project will accommodate the Centre for Education Futures and will feature the Centre’s Carpe Diem studio, Futures Observatory, a recording studio, open-plan workspace for the Centre’s staff, and project and meeting rooms.

What you can expect during the works

Due to the nature of the works, there will be a level of noise associated with the works, however our contractor will aim to minimise any noise disruption where possible.

We do not anticipate power disruption for occupants in Hackett Hall during the works, however in the event of a planned power disruption, advance notice will be provided where possible.

Access into Hackett Hall

· Access into Hackett Hall from the eastern side (closest to the gym and theatres) will be closed for the duration of the works.

· Access into Hackett Hall from the western side (opposite Whitfeld Court) is not affected.

· Access from the Guild Café into the courtyard will remain, however access will not be permitted beyond the temporary site fencing while works are carried out.

Removal of asbestos containing materials – by approved contractors

The refurbishment works will involve the removal of asbestos containing materials within the North, South and East Wings and Eastern walkway of the Hackett Hall courtyard quadrangle.

These works will be undertaken by licensed asbestos removalists under the required controlled conditions in accordance with the Code of Practice for Safe Removal of Asbestos in Workplaces.

The area will be secured and access to these areas will not be permitted to staff, students and visitors. Authorised access will only be permitted to those authorised to carry out the safe removal of asbestos containing materials.
