Wednesday, 25 March 2015

Nominations open on Wednesday 25th March 2015 and close on Thursday 2nd of April 2015.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984, employees are legally entitled to nominate and, if necessary, elect workplace safety and health representatives. The University has been divided into 76 workplaces.

Nominations are now being sought for 18 workplaces which are either vacant or the current representative's term expires at the end of March 2015.

Nominations are open to any current UWA employee who has been employed at the University or in a similar work capacity elsewhere for a minimum of two years. The Act provides for paid leave for up to five days for representatives to attend safety training. The role of a representative is to act on behalf of all employees and to liaise with management on safety and health matters. Representatives have the right to inspect any part of the workplace, to investigate all accidents and are expected to notify the employer of any hazardous situation. The term of office is two (2) years. A safety and health representative incurs no civil liability arising from their performance or failure to perform any function under the Act.

Nominated Safety and Health Workplaces - These workplaces either have no representation or the term of office for the named representative ceases in March 2015. Please see:
