Dear colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to announce the following candidates have been nominated by UWA for national OLT (Office of Learning and Teaching) awards.

The nominees have been selected through a nomination process that usually includes recognition at the Faculty or non-Faculty level and a sustained contribution to teaching and learning.

Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning :
Dr Paul C. Abbott (Physics) for teaching of computational science using real-world problems in science and engineering across all year levels.

Associate Professor Kate Offer (Law) for innovations in increasing student engagement in learning both the fundamentals of the law and the role of law in society.

Associate Professor Kellie Bennett (Behavioural Science) for inspiring medical and health students to be effective communicators, to show empathy, and to actively engage in improving personal and patient wellbeing.

Professor Farid Boussaid (Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering) for bringing contextually grounded learning experiences to electronics engineering students.

Professor Robert Grove (Exercise, Health and Sport Psychology) for the inspirational classroom environments that have enhanced the learning of undergraduate and postgraduate sports science students for over 30 years.

Awards for Teaching Excellence :
Social and Behavioural Sciences Category: Associate Professor Christine Howitt (Education) for early childhood and primary pre-service teacher education and early childhood science which is of national and international significance.

Law, Economics, Business and Related Studies Category: Dr Natalie Skead (Law) for bringing law to life and life to law in her Property Law, Land Law and Equity and Trusts classes.

Humanities and the Arts Category: Dr Bonnie Thomas (European Languages and Studies) for excellence in teaching French language and literature to all levels and convening French at UWA.

Awards for Programmes that Enhance Learning :
Widening Participation Category: ASPIRE UWA for encompassing approaches to learning and teaching that enhance student access, widen participation and support progression.

Educational partnerships and collaborations with other institutions Category: Beyond the Nursing Home (FMDHS) for implementing an innovative clinical training environment to facilitate teaching and learning of health professional students, namely medicine, nursing, social work and podiatric medicine students.

The UWA nominees are worthy recipients of the nominations and we wish them well throughout the awards process.
