The brains of a sea-horse, fat-tailed dunnart, lizard, goldfish, sheep, guinea pig, rat and mouse will be on show at Scitech - to prompt discussion about their evolutionary and ecological contexts.
The occasion is Brain Awareness Week, during which neuroscientists from The University of Western Australia will spend Saturday 21 March and Sunday 22 March at Scitech, facilitating adults' and children's neuroscience activities and providing a range of neuroscience displays.
Other learning experiences include activities such as creating ‘brain hats', an origami ‘brain chatterbox'; a memory game; optical illusions; a competition based on testing reflexes; and a crossword, word search, jokes, doodles and anagrams.
The event is part of the international Brain Research Organisation Brain Campaign from Australia to Zimbabwe. Further information on the events can be found at the Scitech website .
Incidentally, the hippocampus - part of the brain of humans and other mammals - is named after the Greek word for ‘sea-horse' because of its resemblance to the marine animal.
