Highly-educated Indigenous men and women are on the move, with a  huge increase in the number of Indigenous students graduating from UWA.

As 38 undergraduate and post-graduate students took to the podium in a special ceremony at UWA this month, more than 100 of their friends, family and teachers applauded the biggest cohort of Indigenous graduates ever from the University.

The graduates from law, medicine, engineering, science, commerce, arts and education represented an enormous 80 per cent increase on the previous year.

Five of them were also the first students to complete the School of Indigenous Studies ' Indigenous Knowledge, History and Heritage major.

Marilyn Strother , Director of Indigenous Student Services at SIS, said the graduates exemplified the success of the School's programs.

"We are immensely proud. These fine graduates are equipped with the best knowledge, practice and professional capacity to impact on community, industry and culture. They are a credit to UWA and an inspiration to our future Indigenous students."

On the same evening 28 students graduated from the School's 12-month Orientation Course . These students are now prepared and ready to enrol in UWA's undergraduate programs.

This year, more than 230 Indigenous students from all over Australia were enrolled at UWA.
