Some of China's brightest students will soon be studying at the Business School, thanks to a new agreement between UWA and Shandong University, Weihai.

The agreement - which establishes the only new Sino-foreign finance course approved by China's Ministry of Education in the past year - will allow Chinese students to complete their first two years of study in Finance at Shandong University at Weihai, before spending two years at the UWA Business School and graduating with one bachelor's degree from each university.

Phil Dolan , Dean of the Business School, said that 100 students would be recruited into the course each year at Shandong University, starting in 2015, and the majority of these were expected to start studying at UWA two years later, from 2017.

"The quality of students enrolled in the new double degree program at Shandong University is extremely high. On average, their school results are equivalent to an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) of 98," Professor Dolan said.

"The students will receive specially tailored English language training while studying in Weihai, in addition to their academic studies.  This will ensure that they are well equipped to perform to their full potential on arrival in Perth.

"The academic quality of these students, combined with their diverse cultural backgrounds, will enrich the learning environment for all UWA Business School students and we look forward to welcoming the first cohort in 2017."

Shandong University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China. It was founded in 1901 and was recently approved by China's Ministry of Education as a national key comprehensive university.
