It took Aboriginal AFL footballer Kevin Caton about one minute of chatting to sponsors to realise his communication skills were somewhat stunted.

He then embarked on several years of avid newspaper reading in order to gain insight into the world of politics and business, so that he could impress the media and sponsors with his knowledge.

This self-education also held him in good stead when he left the sporting arena and embarked on his own business. When he started footy, Kevin was glad to see the back of school, but when he started a post-footy career in business, he wished he'd spent more time on his education.

The story of Kevin Caton and his ‘fake it till you make it' maverick attitude is one of rise and rise, quite unlike the ‘hero to zero' stories we hear about today. This is one Indigenous entrepreneur that is out to succeed.

Kevin will be presenting his candid and charismatic narrative at the Indigenous Business, Enterprise and Corporations Conference being held at UWA Business School from 1-2 December 2014.
