An Engineering student from The University of Western Australia will take on Australia's best young speakers in the national final of The IET Present around the World (PATW) Competition in Adelaide after winning the regional competition in Perth last week.

Jean-Pierre Schaillee, who is studying Mining Engineering at UWA, claimed first place at the regional competition with his presentation on ‘maintenance strategy’ in mine sites.

PATW is the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s presentation competition for young engineers and technicians aged 18 to 26 years from all over the world.

In the regional finals, individual competitors give a 10-minute presentation on a subject related to engineering and technology, followed by five minutes of questions.

Students are judged by a panel based on their capabilities and knowledge of their subject as well as their ability to answer questions satisfactorily.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.
