The end of the football season leaves some UWA staff members feeling a little lost, after a winter of following their favourite sport.

But if you see Brian Dawson around the campus, he'll always be good for a chat about Australian Rules Football, to help fill the gap.

Brian was named the WAFL Coach of the Year for 2014, winning the JJ Leonard Medal, presented at the Sandover Medal ceremony, the week before the local grand final.

The top coach is also a Winthrop Professor of Exercise Physiology and Biochemistry in the School of Sport Science, Exercise and Health, and Director of the Centre for Athletic Testing.

After coaching his team at Swan Districts to a win in one of the most exciting WAFL grand finals in history, in 2010, Brian took a break from coaching then began as coach of East Perth in 2013.

He has taken the Royals to the grand final for two consecutive years.

Despite being minor premiers by a good margin this year, the Royals again went down in the grand final, this year to Subiaco.
