Colleagues,

Many of us remember our student days as some of the best of our lives.

It is probably that memory that contributes to our determination to provide the best experience possible for our students.

It's many years since I was a student but still, as I walk through the campus, a small part of me is slightly envious of the students I see and meet.  Many of you probably feel the same.

But if you would really like to revisit those days and enrich your knowledge, you can.

The annual UWA Postgrad and Honours Expo is on next week, which makes it the perfect time to consider graduate studies.

All the higher degrees by research and most of the coursework degrees can be completed part-time. As an employee at UWA, you are in a unique position to be able to take advantage of hundreds of different courses, either to increase your skills for work or to simply satisfy a curiosity and a thirst for knowledge in an area outside your work.

The Expo will run at the Bayliss Building and in the nearby Chemistry lecture theatres on Wednesday 24 September from 4pm to 7pm.

You can learn about admission requirements, postgraduate scholarships, different degrees, diplomas and opportunities, and discuss your options with other staff or Honours and postgraduate students.

UWA's inspiring research-intensive environment can be yours, whether you choose a short-term graduate certificate, a graduate diploma, a Master's degree or make a long-term commitment to a PhD or professional doctorate.

Study leave is available for professional and general staff, which can include weekly attendance at lectures or tutorials up to five hours a week; a continuous period of leave up to two weeks per semester, offset against that five hours a week; and time off with pay to sit for exams. (Academics have sabbatical leave so are not eligible for study leave.)

This leave is dependent on your choice of course being an approved study program.

If you feel inspired, register here for the information sessions at the Expo and prepare to ramp up your career or fulfil a personal ambition.
