Is virtual currency Bitcoin a valid currency or a speculative investment? In a public lecture at The University of Western Australia Business School, New York University's Professor David Yermack will provide an informed and unbiased perspective.

Professor Yermack and NYU Law Professor Geoffrey Miller designed the world's first course on Bitcoin: ‘The Law and Business of Bitcoin and Other Cryptocurrencies.'

In April 2014 The Wall Street Journal reported that "starting to assess bitcoin from an academic angle while the currency is still in its infancy allows Yermack and Miller to set the agenda for future study of the subject."

Professor Yermack's research on Bitcoin has been reported in The New York Times , The Wall Street Journal , Bloomberg and Business Week , among other outlets.

Professor David Yermack is the Albert Fingerhut Professor of Finance and Business Transformation at New York University Stern School of Business and Director, NYU Pollack Center for Law and Business.

"Is Bitcoin really a currency? - A public lecture with Professor David Yermack" will be held at the UWA Business School on Thursday 28 August at 6.30pm.
