The University of Western Australia will have one student and two graduates representing Australia when the 2014 Commonwealth Games starts in the Scottish city of Glasgow this Wednesday.

Jessica Pengelly, aged 23, of Innaloo, is a third-year student in sports science and exercise health and will represent Australia in the 400m individual medley.

Originally from Somerset West, Cape Town in South Africa, Jessica represented South Africa in the 2008 Olympics and migrated to Australia in 2010.

UWA engineering graduate Fergus Kavanagh of Nedlands will again represent Australia in hockey with the Kookaburras, just a month after winning the World Cup in the Netherlands.  Fergus was named UWA Sport Star of the Year in 2008.

And UWA physical and health education graduate Adam Commens, of Subiaco, is coach of the Australian women's team, the Hockeyroos, which won silver in the World Cup.
