Do you count morning and afternoon tea as your favourite times of the day?

The good news is that these snack stops can be healthy and nutritious.

Earlier this month, UWA staff who organise catering for meetings and events gathered to join in UWA's first ever Healthy Catering Showcase event at the UWA Watersports complex.

Organised as part of the University's Wellbeing program, the event reinforced the message that you don't need to have a lot of fat, salt and sugar on the table for catered events to be tasty.

Dietitian Nick Nation from Diabetes WA shared his expertise on how to make healthier swaps, and finger food samples of healthier options (suitable for morning or afternoon teas) were available from both on and off campus suppliers. Participants also had a chance to chat to representatives from the providers present.

UWA Health and Wellbeing Officer Sarina Hilton said the event was well attended and allowed for some good robust discussion and information sharing, including suggestions of catering companies people use across campus.

"Given the volume of events held on campus, catering is a key area where we can achieve some important health gains just by making small changes to ordering."

Staff interested in learning more about healthy catering can consult the Safety and Health website or contact Sarina on (08) 6488 7931.
