Fourteen graduates and two staff members of The University of Western Australia have been honoured by their inclusion on the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Professor Samina Yasmeen , director of UWA's Centre for Muslim States and Societies and a Professor of Political Science and International Relations, was awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division, for service to international relations as an academic, adviser and social welfare advocate.

The Honour follows a string of recent awards for Professor Yasmeen: in 2012 she was named a Fellow of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and was inducted into the WA Women's Hall of Fame in the centenary year of International Women's Day.  In 2011 Professor Yasmeen was recognised with the Sir Ronald Wilson Leadership Award in the 39th annual WA Citizen of the Year Awards.

Professor Michael Poole , an Honorary Professorial Fellow in UWA's School of Plant Biology, was also awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division for service to environmental science as a leader, researcher and adviser to government. And former Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and graduate of UWA, Emeritus Professor Bill Louden was recognised as Member (AM) in the General Division for his services to higher education in WA as a leader in teacher education and sector reform.

CSIRO CEO Dr Megan Clark , who graduated from UWA with a Bachelor of Science in 1981 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science in 2006, was awarded a Companion (AC) in the General Division for service to scientific research and development through fostering innovation, to science administration through strategic leadership roles, and to the development of public policy for technological sciences.

UWA graduates awarded an Officer (AO) in the General Division were Mr Frank Cooper , (BCom 1977), Professor Barry Ninham ,  (BSc 1957; MSc 1959; HDSc 2010), Professor Terence Nolan , (BMedSc 1974; MB BS 1977) Head, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at Melbourne University, Professor Alan Rosen , (MB BS 1971), and Dr Carl Vine, (HonDMus 2010).

Those awarded a Member (AM) in the General Division were Associate Professor Nadia Badawi , (PhD 1998), Mr Frank Conroy , (BCom 1974), Dr Margaret Henderson , (BA 1966; PhD 1981), Mr Gregory Martin , (BCom 1973; BE 1969), Mr Murray Meaton ,  (BSc Agric 1971; BEc 1980), and Professor Harry Phillips , (BA 1973).

Two graduates were awarded a Medal (OAM) in the General Division: the late Dr Peter McInnes , (PhD 1975) and Mr Ian Cowie , (BA Hons 1983).
