The University of Western Australia has reached another milestone in its four-year, $1 million equipment upgrade to its Recreation and Fitness Centre at The University's Crawley campus.A $100,000 investment toward the latest milestone has seen the installation of 18 new machines in the facility, including treadmills, cross trainers, incumbent bikes and a grinding machine.

Students, staff and community members can now access the state of the art Technogym® fitness equipment.

Over the past three years, equipment has been upgraded in the cardio room, the main gym floor and the high performance and spin rooms, with the facility boasting an average equipment age of less than three years.

Furthermore, the Centre's offices and change rooms have also been refurbished.

UWA Sports Executive Director Bruce Meakins said the upgrades will continue to ensure UWA and its on- and off-campus communities have access to world-class health and fitness facilities.

"Patrons of UWA's recreation, fitness and sporting facilities range from elite Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes to students, staff and community members," Mr Meakins said.

"Equipment upgrades every 12 months, on a four-year replacement cycle, will ensure that UWA continues to provide its community with the tools and expertise to maximise their wellbeing."

The UWA Sport and Recreation Association (UWA Sports), is responsible for managing sporting facilities, leisure programs and sporting events on behalf of The University of Western Australia.
