Associate Professor Shazzad Hossain has been awarded a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award funding from the Australian Research Council for research into “ Advanced numerical and physical modelling of dynamically penetrating anchors for deep water oil and gas developments ”.

This research will develop a fundamental understanding of the installation mechanisms of dynamically embedded anchors, which is complicated by the very high strain rate at the soil anchor interface.

The aim is to optimise a novel dynamically embedded anchor geometry, designed particularly for calcareous soils, to achieve deeper embedment depth and greater pull-out capacity. The short and long term behaviour of dynamically embedded anchors under operational loadings of various mooring systems will be of particular interest.
