UWA Publishing book Gardens of Fire: an investigative memoir by Robert Kenny has been shortlisted for the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Non-Fiction.
Gardens of Fire is Kenny's personal account of the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009, and an investigation of fire in history and mythology.
The non-fiction judging panel described Gardens of Fire as "a brave and honest book, perhaps the finest writing to come out of the catastrophic 2009 Victorian bushfires".
The panel regarded the memoir as "a great literary contribution, both personal and analytical, to the works on fire in Australia".
The Victorian Premier's Literary Award categories include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, writing for young adults, and the overall Victorian Prize for Literature, worth $100,000.
Winners of each category will be announced at the awards ceremony in Melbourne on 28 January 2014.
