UWA has joined 400 universities from around the world in signing the Talloires Declaration of commitment to sustainability.

The Declaration is a ten-point action plan for incorporating sustainability and environmental literacy in teaching, research, operations and outreach at colleges and universities.

Some of the actions the University has agreed to take, by signing the agreement, are to: increase awareness and create a culture of sustainability; practice institutional ecology; and collaborate for interdisciplinary approaches that support a sustainable future.

The Declaration was created by 22 university presidents and chancellors in Talloires, France in 1990. The Secretariat for its signatories is the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future .
