COFS PhD student Anthony Blake was recently awarded an Educational Support Scholarship from the Perth branch of the Society of Underwater Technology (SUT) at their 10th Annual General Meeting.

SUT awards six scholarships annually to either undergraduate or postgraduate students undertaking studies that embrace relevant component areas of marine science, underwater technology or offshore engineering. The awards are open to any student studying in Australia and are based on the submission of a written application in the first instance, and selected students are then called to an interview with the SUT scholarship committee.

The scholarship provides financial sponsorship of $5000 and free attendance to SUT professional development courses.

Linden Blair was the other successful applicant from the University of Western Australia.

Anthony transferred from the Institute of Technology Sligo, Ireland to COFS in May 2012, to continue his PhD, and has undertaken an experimental study to assess the geotechnical performance of Dynamically Embedded PLate Anchors (DEPLA). He is supervised by Associate Professor Conleth O'Loughlin and Professor Christophe Gaudin.

Further information on Anthony and his project can be found on his student profile page on the COFS website .
