Indonesia, like many other countries experiencing rapid growth, faces a dilemma in finding a balance between rationalism and populism in the formulation of policy; between an effective government and a representative government; and between technocracy and democracy, according to its Vice-President Professor Dr Boediono.

Professor Dr Boedionio was delivering the 2013 Shann Memorial Lecture on Economics in Perth today, at the invitation of The University of Western Australia, where he completed an Economics degree in 1967.

The 52nd Shann Memorial Lecture celebrates the University’s Centenary Year, and its 100th year of teaching the discipline of Economics.

Professor Dr Boediono’s speech (MS Word doc 55 KB) is available online.
