UWA music students and AMEB candidates Riley Skevington, Ben Pallagi and Alessandro Pittorino were selected for the VOSE competition finals and performed the first movement of their chosen concerto with the UWA Orchestra in the ‘Artistry! Culmination' concert held on Saturday 19 October 2013 in the Winthrop Hall.

The VOSE Memorial Prize is awarded, in memory of George Vose, to the student who presents the best public performance of prescribed works.

Riley won the prize with Violin Concerto No. 1 iii. Passagalia iv. Burlesque (Shoshtakovich) on the violin. Ben, who played Allegro from Clarinet Concerto No. 2, Op 74 (von Weber) on the clarinet, tied for second place with Alessandro, who played Introduction et Allegro from Symphony No. 1 (Guilmant) on the organ. All three performances were very well received.

Riley, Ben and Alessandro have successfully participated in numerous competitions and performances and gained outstanding results in their AMEB exams. Ben successfully completed his Associate Diploma in Clarinet in 2010 and Riley achieved his Licentiate Diploma with Distinction in 2009 for which he was awarded the J B Vincent Memorial Prize as the Most Outstanding Licentiate candidate in that year.
