The Kimberley Klub program run by Garnduwa supports Indigenous students from the Kimberley in their academic and sporting careers while in Perth. There are many students from the Kimberley area currently studying at the University of Western Australia.

Recently four UWA students were recognised at the Kimberley Klub Awards dinner at Claremont Football club, sponsored by Leightons Contractors. Over 200 tertiary and secondary students attended.

Rachel Fong, who will complete the Bachelor of Commerce this year and Scott Wilson who is in 2nd year Bachelor of Arts (Indigenous Knowledge and Law and Society Majors) received the Tertiary Academic Awards.

The Senior Female Sportsperson award was given to final year Environmental Engineering student, Samantha Shepherd. Samantha is well known for her sporting achievements, having run the New York Marathon in 2011 as part of the Indigenous Marathon team, co-captain of the 2013 Western Waagyls team, and has represented WA in the State Women’s Football.

Brianna Ozies won the Community and Volunteer Involvement Award for women. Brianna is in the Orientation Course this year and intends to study Science in 2014 with a view to continuing onto Medicine.

Many outstanding secondary students from the Kimberley who attend schools in Perth were also recognised for their achievements including sports, traineeships and academic success. We hope to see some of these students at UWA in the future.
