This prize is sponsored by the firm GFWA Pty Ltd and awarded by the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) for the best paper presentation by a final year student in the area of Geomechanics at Universities in Western Australia.

Four final year students at the University of Western Australia (2 students), Curtin University (1 student) and Edith Cowan University (1 student) were selected.  On the night of the competition each student gave a 12 minute presentation with an additional 3 minutes for questions.

The winner was chosen on the night by a panel selected by the AGS committee.  Judging was done on the basis of: the overall quality of the project and work, the quality of the written paper and the standard of the presentation on the night.
