An Unknown Sky and other stories by Susan Midalia, published by UWA Publishing in 2012, has been shortlisted in the 2013 Queensland Literary Awards.

An Unknown Sky , which was also recently longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, is one of five books shortlisted for the coveted Steele Rudd Award for an Australian short story collection.

Following Queensland Premier Campbell Newman's decision to abolish the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards in 2012, the Queensland Literary Awards was established through people-power and is now the largest suite of independently managed literary prizes in Australia.

"Queensland's commitment and love of literature is on display again this year. In 2013 we are thrilled to be back with the support of corporate Queensland, its major institutions and the wider community," the Chairman of Queensland Literary Awards, Dr Stuart Glover, said.

The winners for the 2013 Queensland Literary Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday 4 September.
