UWA Publishing books Crimson Crop by Peter Rose and Guy Grey-Smith: Life Force by Andrew Gaynor have been shortlisted in the 2012 Western Australian Premier's Book Awards.

Crimson Crop , which was also recently shortlisted for the Prime Minister's Literary Award for Poetry, is shortlisted in the Poetry category, while Guy Grey-Smith is shortlisted in the category of WA History.

Both books are one of six shortlisted in their respective categories, which are worth $10,000 each.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day announced that more than 500 entries were received from fiction and non-fiction writers.

"From Sue Smith's script for the televised biopic Mabo to Montebello , Robert Drewe's sequel to The Shark Net , the Western Australian Premier's Book Awards continue to attract the finest literary works created in Australia today," Mr Day said.

The winners for the 2012 Western Australian Premier's Book Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Monday 16 September.
