Vipul Agarwal, a chemistry PhD student at UWA, has been chosen as one of 8 Australian early career researchers from a highly competitive selection process to travel to Lindau in Germany to meet and learn from 37 Nobel Laureates.

Twenty thousand young researchers from around the world applied to attend the 2013 meeting and only 550 were successful. Vipul was nominated as one of two UWA students and was one of only 10 candidates nominated by the Australian Academy of Science.

Vipul’s research into a new scaffold system for burns healing, to promote healing and reduce scarring has made him stand out from the 20,000 applicants.

More than 25,000 young scientists from 80 countries have attended the Nobel Laureate Meetings since 1951. They each belong to the budding scientific elite of their respective countries, and have passed a multi-stage international selection procedure.

A comprehensive programme, dedicated to the Nobel Prize discipline of chemistry, awaits the participants at Lindau (Germany).  Lectures by 37 Nobel Laureates, intimate rounds of discussions and master classes offer a science experience of the very highest standard.

The rest of the Australian delegation comprises:

  • Aditya Chopra, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Research School of Earth Sciences ,  Australian National University
  • Lena Daumann, School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, University of Queensland
  • Nick Green, Research School of Chemistry, Australian National University
  • Anwen Krause-Heuer, ANSTO
  • Mandy Leung, School of Chemistry and Physics, University of Adelaide
  • Lara Malins, School of Chemistry, University of Sydney
  • Paul Stevenson, School of Life, Deakin University
