The power of two million candles will transform landmark Winthrop Hall into a panoramic spectacle of light and sound to launch LUMINOUSnight, a free one-night pageant of art and culture to inaugurate an event-filled 2013 Centenary Year at The University of Western Australia.

Ten specially-imported light projectors - each 10 times more powerful than an outdoor cinema - will cast a feast of animated story-telling imagery onto the historic north façade to delight and entertain an expected audience of thousands throughout the night of Friday February 8.

The computer-driven multi-beam projection created by Illuminart Co-Director Cindi Drennan will highlight key moments and characters from the University's 100-year history, including stunning colour imagery of UWA's iconic peacocks and a soundtrack of narrative excerpts and tracks from UWA's Centenary music CD.

The evening's gala celebrations will include more than 36 separate acts by more than 250 artists, with fire jugglers; performances by classical, world, folk, pop and jazz singers and musicians; giant puppets; dance troupes; stilt walkers; 12 augmented reality projections - including a "space ship" over UWA's Reid Library; theatrical shows; contortionists; exhibitions, installations; and a grand fire show finale.

The full program is available at LUMINOUSnight .
