The University of Western Australia will welcome its first group of Fairway UWA students at a special morning tea tomorrow, marking the 100th year of student enrolments at WA's first and highest-ranked university.

Fairway UWA is a study entry program that supports students who may face particular challenges to demonstrate their academic potential but - given the opportunity - have the ability to succeed at university.

The program reflects the University's long-held commitment to recruit and graduate a diverse student cohort of the highest quality.

Many Fairway UWA students are the first in their family to attend university, many have studied at schools under-represented on campus, several have arrived in WA as migrants after difficult journeys and all have experienced financial disadvantage.

They were chosen in Year 11, and took part during Year 12 in a year-long program of online academic skills development and mentoring.

Along with the Fairway students starting at UWA this year, a group of 100 students about to start high school Year 12 in 2013, will also be welcomed on campus.

The morning tea is at 10.30am in the Banquet Hall at The University Club of Western Australia tomorrow (January 24).
