UWA’s Family Law moot team is in the running for the grand final after winning a preliminary round of the National Family Law Moot Competition.

Caleb Holder, Simi Jamnadass, Priya Kahlon and Rachel Pearce had to consider complex property and trusts issues to secure the win over Flinders University.

They appeared before the Honourable Rod Burr AM at the Family Court of Australia in Adelaide.

Two preliminary round finalists from law schools throughout Australia will be selected to compete in a grand final at the National Family Law Conference in Hobart in October.

The UWA team is coached by Ying Yi Siow and Trish Pan Yang (members of the 2011 team), and coordinated by Professor Robyn Carroll . The Law School is grateful for the support of Kelly Merris, Amy Preston-Samson, Sarah Jones, Scott Young, Alicia Yap, Tamara Arapovic, Ciara Tyson, Dirk Klicker, Lara Anstie, David Smith, Milos Supljeglav and Trevor McKenna in preparing for the competition.

The National Family Law Moot Competition is organised by the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. The competition requires extensive preparation for the presentation of the moot based on a mock case before the Family Court of Australia.
