UWA was abuzz with activity through the July school holidays with around 250 high school students participating in one of our ‘A Day in the Life of...' events to learn more about life as a university student.

Students were given the chance to interact with lecturers and current students and also participate in a range of hands-on activities in their chosen field:

A Day in the Life of an Engineering Science Student

Budding Engineering Science students participated in a number of interactive workshops across a variety of disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering. Included in the list of favourite activities on the day was the chance to build a simple electric motor, and, the Renewable Energy Vehicle (REV) showcase.

The students enjoyed their day and the majority said they would be interested in studying Engineering Science after their experience.

A Day in the Life of a Chemistry Student

The highlight of the day for future Chemistry students was a hands-on laboratory session that involved synthesising aspirin. The feedback received from participants was extremely positive and their comments included "great facilities, great experience, thanks", "beautiful campus" and "engaging and interesting".

A Day in the Life of Business School Student

Prospective Business School students worked in teams, conducting a business case study for retailer JB Hi-Fi. This involved analysing their current business model and providing possible solutions. The teams, who were mentored by our current Commerce students, then presented their findings to the group. Students from the winning team considered it a ‘valuable experience' and appreciated the opportunity to work with other Year 11 and 12 students from all over Perth.
