UWA Publishing books, Lines for Birds , Justice , and Government House have been shortlisted for the 2011 Western Australian Premier's Book Awards.

Lines for Birds: Poems and Paintings by Barry Hill and John Wolseley, which is shortlisted for the Poetry Award, was also previously shortlisted for the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards.

Justice: A history of the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia , by Fiona Skyring, and Government House and Western Australian Society 1829-2010 , by Jeremy Martens, are both shortlisted for the WA History Award.

This is the second time that Justice and Government House have been shortlisted for the same award: in June, Justice won the Margaret Medcalf Award for use of State archives, and Government House was awarded a special commendation.

Minister for Culture and the Arts, John Day, said a record number of 596 entries were submitted this year, compared to 571 for the 2010 Awards.

The winners will be announced on September 20.
