David Childs
Tuesday, 10 July 2012

A father and son who are world-renowned euphonium and brass band specialists will play at The University of Western Australia this week.

Englishmen David and Robert Childs will take to the stage with Perth's best brass band in a night of musical exhilaration.

Like his father, David Childs has emerged as one of the finest brass soloists in the world today.  Since winning the brass final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2000, he has wowed audiences with his technique, musicality and engaging stage presence.

Robert Childs is a leading figure in the world of brass music.  For more than 30 years, he has performed at the highest level, giving solo performances in many of the world's most prestigious venues.  He is now the Musical Director of world renowned Cory Band.

It is rare for such masters of the brass band to be heard in Western Australia.  It is even more unusual for father and son to perform together works that include an Australian Premiere of Karl Jenkins Euphonium Concerto.

The Childs will be joined on stage by Perth's celebrated Brass Band, RASWA, conducted by Perth musical identity and UWA Head of Music, Dr Alan Lourens.

Conductor, Alan Lourens, and the Childs, will be available for interview.
