A review panel appointed by The University of Western Australia will examine Orientation and related events conducted by and/or in the name of the University; the Student Guild and its affiliated Guild clubs and societies;  UWA-affiliated colleges and Currie Hall, including residential college student clubs;  The Sports and Recreation Association and affiliated clubs.

The internal review will consider and report on:

  • a. the planning, conduct and overall quality of the events examined in relation to the aims of Orientation and the needs of commencing students;
  • b. the range of events provided for the diverse commencing student population;
  • c. the approach to identification and management of risk;
  • d. compliance with relevant University policies and laws.

The review panel consists of Winthrop Professor Grady Venville  (Associate Chair of Academic Board), as chair of the review panel, and the following members:

Dr Jane Heyworth (Sub-Dean (Health Science), Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences); Mr Jon Stubbs (Director, Student Services); Ms Tricia Wylde (Manager, Health Promotion, Medical Centre, Student Services), Guild President or his nominee;  A nominee of the Colleges; Mr David Richardson (Director, Student Services, University of Otago, as the international/external member).

The panel has been established and will commence the review in the near future.

The review is to be undertaken during 2012 and will deliver its report in sufficient time for its recommendations to be implemented in time for the 2013 academic year orientation.
