Kelsi Forrest has been awarded the inaugural Aboriginal Women’s Legal Education Trust Scholarship offered by the Women Lawyers of WA at its annual Honours Dinner at the UWA Club in March 2012.
Kelsi is in her 2nd year of Arts/Law. Her commitment and passion to law, community and her studies have been acknowledged in her receipt of other scholarships. In March, Kelsi was a participant in the Constitutional Recognition Forum in Sydney and a member of the UWA Harmony Day panel 'Widening the Door' to promote 'conversation' about race. Her other involvements over the past 12 months have been on the National Indigenous Youth Leadership Program and a member of the Aboriginal Youth Reference group for the WA Drug and Alcohol Advisory Service and a mentor for Future Footprints Program.
At the March Women Lawyers Honours Dinner, Indigenous law graduate, Tammy Solonec was awarded the Junior woman lawyer of the year.
Tammy received further recognition on 16 May when she was awarded Junior Lawyer of the year by the Law Society of WA. Tammy was described as “an active and passionate lawyer who has worked hard to champion the rights of Indigenous peoples in many areas over many years.”
