Almost 100 years ago, eight Professors were the first to undertake teaching duties at the newly-established University of Western Australia (UWA).

These founding professionals taught across three faculties, and a rotation-system ensured most were given the opportunity, and responsibility, to serve as Vice-Chancellor.

As the centenary draws near, the UWA Historical Society (UWAHS) will reintroduce these pioneering figures by hosting two special panel events.

The first, to be held on Saturday 19 May 2012, will shine the spotlight on four of these Foundation Professors;

  • Professor A. D. Ross
  • Professor H.E. Whitfield
  • Professor E. O. G. Shann
  • Professor W. J. Dakin.

During this one-hour session, profiles of each Professor will be presented by four distinguished key-note speakers.

A second event will be staged later this year to acknowledge the remaining four members of the very first UWA teaching unit.
