UWA Publishing book From Moree to Mabo: The Mary Gaudron Story , by Pamela Burton, has been longlisted for the 2012 National Biography Award.

From Moree to Mabo is the remarkable story of Mary Gaudron QC, the first female justice of the High Court of Australia.

In a groundbreaking career, Mary Gaudron passionately championed gender equality and indigenous rights, ruling on landmark decisions such as Mabo and Wik, as well as the Equal Pay case for the Whitlam Government.

The annual award, which includes $25,000 prize money, is Australia's pre-eminent prize for biographical writing and memoir.

From Moree to Mabo is longlisted amongst twelve highly impressive volumes, which have been selected from a record 63 entries into this year's award.

"Biography - in its many styles and guises - is in rude health, as this longlist demonstrates. Such is the quality and diversity of the longlist we want to highlight these twelve titles prior to the announcement of the shortlist," chair of the judging panel, Peter Rose, said.

The shortlist for this year's award will be released on Tuesday 1 May and the winner will be announced on Monday 14 May at a special event at the State Library of NSW, as part of the Sydney Writers Festival.
