The 2011 UWA Business School research awards have recognised the outstanding work being conducted by the School's faculty.

Ahern Early Career Researcher Portfolio Awards, Dean's Best Paper Prizes, and Research Development Awards were presented to academics across the Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management and Organisations, and Marketing disciplines.

UWA Business School Dean, Winthrop Professor Phil Dolan, congratulated the award winners. ‘This year, we had an extremely large number of high quality applications - and in particular, this reflected the growing strength of our early career researchers. I would like to congratulate our winners, and also commend all applicants on their outstanding research portfolios,' he said.

Dean's Best Paper Prizes were awarded to Winthrop Professor Sharon Parker for ‘Taking stock: Integrating and differentiating multiple proactive behaviors,' published in the Journal of Management, and Assistant Professor Jing Yu, for ‘Does proximity matter in international bond underwriting?' published in the Journal of Banking and Finance.

Winthrop Professor Parker's paper was co-authored with Catherine Collins from the University of New South Wales, and examined similarities, differences, and interrelationships between different types of proactive behaviour.

Assistant Professor Yu's paper was co-authored with Sie Ting Lau from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. It investigated the impact of geographic proximity on the selection of lead underwriter in the international bond market.

Assistant Professor Alex Luksyte, Assistant Professor Leandro Magnusson and Assistant Professor Stijn Masschelein were winners of the Business School Ahern Early Career Researcher Portfolio Awards, which recognise the quality of research output, relative to opportunity.

A Dean's Research Fellowship was awarded to Assistant Professor Gillian Yeo, who has undertaken research in the area of organisational psychology, examining individual and situational factors influencing task performance.

In addition, eleven projects received grants in the Business School Research Development Awards. These projects will investigate areas such as valuation of housing; education and health outcomes for Indian children; the effects of short selling; the impact of personal values on people's giving behaviours; and impact of co-workers on productivity.
