Do you have the skills to navigate today’s world?

The Linguistics Discipline at The University of Western Australia is excited to be offering Communication Across Cultures and Languages, an Arts Broadening unit (Category A and B) which can also be taken as an elective in second semester 2012.

Are you interested in getting your message across in culturally appropriate ways? Are you ready to thrive in international contexts?

Communication Across Cultures and Languages introduces students from a range of disciplines to the basics of cross-cultural communication, emphasising the language practices of different human groups. The focus is on examining issues such as the social status of world languages, communication strategies relevant to using and interpreting messages and how these vary across languages and cultures.

We will also explore bridging cross-linguistic and cross-cultural gaps by investigating how translation, interpreting and language learning work.

Students pursuing any degree can take this unit, which is ideal for those who wish to broaden their global communications skills.
