The ARC has recently awarded a LIEF grant to the value of $700,000 to develop a new national geotechnical centrifuge facility at UWA.  UWA are contributing $700,000 and partner organisations are contributing $180,000.

Professor Christophe Gaudin, Centrifuge Manager at COFS, is the Investigator Manager and, Monash University, The University of Adelaide, The University of Newcastle, The University of Queensland and University of Wollongong are partner organisations.

This new centrifuge will have a 10m diameter and will be capable of spinning 2400kg of soil at 100g.  It will enable the modelling of complex offshore and onshore structures.  The new facility will support many geotechnical fields, associated with the economical and geographical development of Australia, and ensure that Australia will maintain its leadership within the international physical modelling community.
